What’s chain shackles?

Chain Shackles

A shackle, common connecting link, is a U-shaped, load bearing connecting device designed to be used with a removable pin. Shackles can be used for a variety of rigging, lifting, pulling and hoisting applications. The removable pin design is perfect for temporary lifting jobs or quick connect and disconnect.

Basically there are four types of shackles, with 2 types of shackles body and 2 types of shackle pins, let’s talk from chain shackle/D shackle.

Chain shackles, also referred to as D shackles, have a D-shaped bow that is narrower than anchor shackles. Because these shackles are designed and rated for in-line tension, they should not be side loaded, as side loading can twist or bend the bow of the shackle.“D” (chain) shackles are generally used to join two pieces rated for in-line tension, while bow (anchor) shackles are typically employed where more than one attachment has to be made to the body, for side and racking loads may twist or bend the chain shackle.

When using a chain shackle, the center line of the load should always coincide with the center line of the shackle when in use.
